When Covid-19 is in the rear-view mirror we hope to be ready to put shovels in the ground and build this centre.
What can I do to help in building the centre?
Join our ambassador program! Start off by completing our feasibility survey (links at top and bottom of this page) and act as an ambassador to help spread the word. Share this website on all your social media.
Where will the centre be located?
Unless the survey suggests otherwise, our intention is to be in the South West London area – 5 minutes max off highway
How can I donate to the centre?
You can e-transfer from your online bank account to us at [email protected] Donations go towards development costs such as website design, legal fees, and so forth.
Will I get a tax receipt if I donate?
Sorry, at this time we are not able to issue tax receipts. It was determined that we should not incorporate as a charity due to its burdensome tax filing requirements and charity work is not our reason for being.
In the future, you may be able to donate to the SWOPS Centre through the National Sports Trust Fund – Ontario. We are working on that but it won’t likely happen till 2021. Note: Pickleball is not a recognized sport (long story), but squash is.
We hope you will contribute anyways since the money is needed to move through this first feasibility phase. A strong pool of donations at this phase will show major donors the community has “skin in the game”, and helps us to attract even more funding.
What happens to our donations if the centre is not built?
If the facility does not get built and there is surplus donation money, it will go to both Squash Ontario and Pickleball Ontario.
What kind of programming does the centre offer?
Our plan is to have both a pickleball and squash director that will provide lessons, intro clinics, leagues, box ladders, tournaments and camps for players of all skill levels and ages from youth on up.
How much is it going to cost to be a member?
Exact pricing has not yet been determined. However, on our survey ( www.swopsc.ca/survey ) we have proposed membership options and a range of fees where you can tell us what is acceptable for you.
Will there be family memberships option available?
Children aged 13 and younger will be free as long as their parent / guardian / grandparent has a paid membership. Children 14 and older will get half priced memberships.
Will there be an “Out-of-Town”, “Snowbirds”, or “On-Hold” membership option?
We need as many members as possible to make this facility feasible and to ensure ongoing success. As we are a centre for SWO, setting the fees for memberships such as “Out-Of-Town”, “Snowbirds“, and “On-Hold”, are all important options that we will be considering to increase membership. Once we have an anchor donor in place, we will do a survey to find demand on issues like this (Summer of 2021).
Are you building outdoor pickleball courts?
We are not planning on building outdoor pickleball courts for the following reasons. There are several outdoor courts already in and around our community. Outdoor courts are the responsibility of the municipality since it is free and easy access for anyone to play on. The effect of extreme weather on outdoor courts can add to upkeep. When playing outdoors, you are constantly having to be aware of the sun, heat, humidity, wind, and rain. Outdoor courts can not be used in poor weather or the winter season, resulting in limited usage.
Will child minding services be offered?
There is enough space within the proposed centre to offer this service, and if there is enough demand for it, then it is something we would consider offering.
What is a non-profit sports centre?
A non-profit sports centre is publicly owned to serve the community. Given that there is no profit motive, membership and other access fees are minimized, set at a level needed to cover operating costs and facility maintenance only.
Who is going to hire the sports directors & staff?
When the time comes, the board will hire a professional club manager and it will be the managers responsibility to hire and manage all the staff.
What are the hours of operation?
If we build it, will you come? Tell us how. We’re offering free one-month memberships for everyone who completes the survey. Help us build a centre with the features important to you.
This Feasibility Study will cost approximately $20,000, so if you like to see this centre built, please make a donation ($50-$500) in order for us to make this a reality. You can e-transfer from your online bank account to us at [email protected]
Money raised by donations will be spent on promotion (video production, advertising, website), lawyer fees, accountant fees, and a Certified Business Valuator. Not only will the money cover expenses, but it will also prove to future corporate donors that we have a committed community supporting our vision.
